Sustainable salon furniture: natural wood and long-lasting upholstery
Many salon owners now want to buy furniture that is kinder to the environment, and many clients notice. The simplest form of sustainability is also the least glamorous: buying pieces that last for many years and can be repaired instead of replaced. Here is how to approach it practically, and what to ask suppliers.

Start with durability
A table that is replaced every three years has a larger footprint than one that serves for fifteen, whatever it is made of. When you compare options, ask how a piece is built and how it ages:
- Joints and frames. Well-made joints and a rigid frame keep a piece in service. Solid wood frames can be tightened, repaired and refinished.
- Finish. A hard-wearing finish that can be renewed means the surface can be refreshed instead of the whole piece replaced.
- Upholstery. Choose fabrics and foams made for heavy commercial use, and ask whether covers can be replaced separately from the frame.
Natural wood and where it comes from
Wood is a renewable material, but only when it comes from responsibly managed forests. Rules on timber and deforestation now affect many importers, especially in Europe, so ask your supplier for information about the origin of the wood. Recognised forest certification schemes exist, and a supplier who can document the origin of their timber makes your own paperwork easier. Do not accept vague green claims: ask what exactly is meant, and for evidence.
Practical choices that reduce waste
- Buy the whole set at once, in matching materials, so that pieces can be reused and rearranged as the salon changes.
- Choose timeless shapes and neutral natural tones that will not need replacing when fashions change.
- Ask for a size and layout that fit your room, so that nothing is wasted or poorly used.
- Ask about packing: wooden crates and cartons that can be reused or recycled.
- Keep a simple care routine for finishes and upholstery to extend the life of every piece.
Be honest in your own marketing
Clients and regulators are increasingly alert to exaggerated environmental claims. Describe what is true and specific, for example "solid wood frames built to be repaired", rather than general slogans. Our furniture is made to order in our own workshop in Türkiye, which keeps production close to the materials and lets us build to the sizes you need.
